Overview

A main bathroom in glazed green tile over a terrazzo floor, with a stone vessel basin on an oak stand and a wall mixer above it. The cistern sits in the wall behind the tile, so the room keeps its clean lines and the oak and stone do the talking.

We wanted the cistern hidden without a clumsy hatch. The access panel is four green tiles that lift out, and you would never find it unless you knew where to look.

An in wall cistern needs a way in. We framed its carrier with Verran’s carpenters and placed the access panel where the tiler could set it out on the tile grid, so the panel reads as four green tiles and nothing more.

The vessel basin sits on an oak stand, so its waste runs down inside the stand and into the wall without showing. The wall mixer was set out to the basin’s centre and to the height of the bowl, which keeps the water landing where it should.

We tested the cistern and every supply before the tile went on, and again after fit off.
